This tutorial shows how to create an article in Joomla that takes full page width and goes without any sidebars (modules). If you have any experience in Joomla you may have notices that using the Joomla admin panel you have the ability to enable/disable Joomla modules for menu items (pages). In other words to create an article with no modules we need to assign the menu item to the article and disable necessary modules for the created menu item. Let’s see how this can be done.
1. First of all open we need to create new article. If you already have articles you can skip this step .Open Joomla admin panel and go to the Content > Articles manager. Click the New button in the top right corner. Input the article title and content and click save.
2. Now we need to create new menu. In Joomla admin select Menus > Menu Manager > New. It will be a system menu and won;t be published at the website frontend. Your visitors won’t see this menu.
You can for sure use any of the existing Joomla menus. But in this case do not publish menu item.
3. When the menu is ready open it and add new menu item: Menus > your_menu > New. As menu type select Articles > Article Layout (K2 Item for Joomla 1.7 or later. ) From the right column click Select button for the Select article field and select the article you want to disable modules for.
When you are done click Save button to keep your changes.
4. New we need to disable modules for the newly created menu item. In Joomla admin select Extensions > Module Manager, locate the modules you want to disable and open them. For each module you can see the Menu Assignment block where you can enable/disable the module for the menu items. Use this block to disable modules for the newly created menu item.
When you are done save your modules. Now you can view your article and see the result. It should be displayed without any modules.
