This tutorial will show you how to install Prestashop.
Downloading Prestashop
First of all you need to download the Prestashop engine from the official website at http://www.prestashop.com/
Extract the files
Extract the files from the downloaded package. This could be done using WinZip software for Windows OS and Stuffit Expander for MAC OS.
Upload the Prestashop engine
When you are done upload the Prestashop engine files to your hosting server. This could be done using the hosting control panel file manager or some FTP manager like FileZilla, CuteFTP etc. Check the tutorial
Prestashop Installation procedure.
Before you start Prestashop installation wizard you need to create a database.
When the above steps are complete open your browser and in the address bar type http://your_domain_name/prestashop_root
Step 1. Welcome!
Select your installation language. Note that the language selection won’t affect your website and administration panel, you define only the installation wizard language.
Check the license agreement, if you agree with it check the “I agree to the above terms and conditions”.Checkbox. Click Next button when done.
Step 2. System Compatibility
This screen shows you the compatibility checklist. All options should be checked, otherwise you may have some issues with the Prestashop installation and usage.
Please check your hosting provider if you have the incompatibility notifications.
Step 3. System Configuration
Database configuration
Here you need to input your database details: database name, username, password and server. Contact your hosting provider if you don’t have the details.
Installation type
Simple mode: Basic installation – it will install the Prestashop engine without any sample products so you’ll have a clear store.
Full mode: includes 100+ additional modules and demo products – this installation option allows you to install the Prestashop sample products, modules.
If you ordered a Prestashop template use the Simple mode installation as the sample data is provided with the template and is different for each one.
E-mail delivery set-up
By default, the PHP ‘mail()’ function is used to send email from the store to your e-mail account. For more functionality, manual SMTP configuration is recommended. Use this option only in case you know what you are doing.
Step 4. Shop Configuration
Input your store title and description. Input the administrator login details.
Also this page allows you to enagle/disable shopping cart functionality. This could be done enabling the catalog mode. If you activate this feature, all purchase features will be disabled. You can activate this feature later in your back office
Step 5. Installation is complete!
The Prestashop installation is almost complete. You need to perform some tasks to improve your Prestashop store security:
- Open the Prestashop installation directory and delete/rename the install folder.
- Rename the admin folder.
- Delete readme_fr.txt, readme_en.txt, readme_es.txt, readme_de.txt, readme_it.txt, and CHANGELOG files from the Prestashop root.
